Nothing like a warm Christmas

We spent the first week of December in Omaha, Nebraska. The first few days were beautiful, sunny, and warm but winter finally caught up with us on Friday. It clouded over and sent rain and sleet down on us as we were trying to pack. Every time you think “Oh, I could like Nebraska”, Nebraska turns around and shows you why it has the reputation that it does.

From Nebraska we drove down through La Junta, CO for a week in Santa Fe. For the third winter in a row, we almost got snowed out of class. Michael and I got to go downtown to the Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis of Asisi to hear the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus give their Christmas concert. They sang quite a few of the pieces I sang with the San Antonio Choral Society, so it was a night full of happy memories for me.

After a week of 30° weather in Santa Fe, we drove waaay up north to Scottsbluff, NE for a week of … clear sunny skies and 60° days. Nebraska trying to suck me in again…. While we were there, we visited the Legacy of the Plains museum and learned about dry-land farming and irrigation techniques.

From Nebraska we came home to Texas for a few days at Christmas. We celebrated Christmas with the Hammer family then got to help Big Kerry on a cabling job on Tuesday and Wednesday. We pulled cable, hung up access points, drilled holes in walls.. all lots of fun like the good old days. Poor Michael thought he had escaped old fashioned tech work, but this is what happens when you marry a ladder-monkey!

Then it was back in the car for a 28 hour drive up to New Jersey to visit the other set of parents! We have a week off at the beginning of the year, then it’s back on the road to Alabama.
