Ho! for the Yukon

States Visited: Georgia Alaska(!!) New Mexico Texas

When we left you last month, we were about to leave Georgia for our trip out west. We spent the 4th of July in Albuquerque, watching the fireworks from Balloon Fiesta Park. We also got to visit the Abrams Abruzzo Balloon Museum that weekend. It was a really cool place to spend an hour or two.

Balloons!

We left Albuquerque on Saturday and flew up to Fairbanks, AK! We spent the night in Fairbanks, visited the cultural center there, then drove out to Delta Junction (population 900). We stayed in a little cabin, saw the reindeer, three moose, and a loooot of Alaskan Fireweed (a local wildflower), then we flew home the next Saturday. Definitely one of my favorite weeks this year!

We left Albuquerque on Sunday and spent a week in Taos. Nothing like seeing a hot air balloon floating silently above the Rio Grande gorge around daybreak.

After Taos, we went back (yes again) to Pistachioland. This time we did the little farm tour and learned about the difficulties involved in growing pistachio trees.

Then we came home to Boerne for 48 hours before leaving again. While at home, we visited “Gorditas Laguneras” on San Pedro Rd and had authentic gorditas for the first time. I even got to try out my Spanish with the waitress!

Next up: Florida, the wedding (ahhhh), Kansas and New Mexico.
