Finally some real winter

States visited: New Jersey Alabama Tennessee Texas

After Christmas in Texas, we drove up to New Jersey to spend a week with the Yankee side of the family. We dodged the first big snow-storm of the year on our trip down to Scottsboro, AL but the second big storm caught us in Tennessee.

Now we can finally say “Remember When” instead of “Maybe Someday”

We drove to Memphis and toured the Bass Pro Pyramid (the 7th largest pyramid in the world). As soon as the snow started falling we fled Memphis and drove to Nashville. We arrived in Nashville in the clear, spent 20 minutes in the grocery store and emerged to half an inch of snow!

We spent a week buried in the snow in Nashville. It snowed all day Sunday and all day Monday and never got above freezing the entire week. When I tell you that Tennessee doesn’t know what do to do about snow, I mean that the entire parking lot of Wal-Mart from the farthest car to the door was one sheet of ice. They didn’t even try to plow or scrape or anything.

We did escape the hotel one day and visited the famous Loveless Cafe for an old fashioned Southern breakfast. On Sunday we left our Nashville hotel and had lunch at the cute little hipster Instagram restaurant “Culture + Co”. You sit at the bar and take little cheese dishes off the never-ending conveyor belt. Pretty nifty!

Definitely an Instagram experience

After a week in Cookeville we drove home to Texas. The last week of January we spent in the Hyatt Place in Cedar Park where we met the first time. ❤ Lots of happy memories for us here. We went across the street to Rosa’s Cafe, the site of our first date and got to sit in “our booth”.

Great place to eat: Rosa’s Cafe and Tortilla Factory

Next up New Mexico and Louisiana and our first Valentine’s day spent together in person. 💖💗💘
