5 States Left

States Visited:

Missouri Nebraska Hawai'i New Mexico Texas

Well, we finally escaped the Florida prison system. We headed up from St. Augustine, FL to Lincoln, NE and stopped in Kansas City on the way to see the KC Royals beat the Chicago Cubs. I guess we're baseball people now.

When you grow up in Texas you naturally scoff at the idea of living in the mid-west. "Nebraska? (derogatory) What's in Nebrask?" It turns out, Nebraska is pretty great. The people are friendly, the grass is green, there's plenty of room and the pace of life is chill and relaxed. It's definitely in my top 5 states.

We left Lincoln and drove to Dallas to hop on our plane. 8 hours later we landed in Honolulu, just as Hurrican Lala finished raining on the Hawaiian Islands. We spent a week in the armpit of the tropical paradise - gray concrete, traffic, high gas prices, no parking spaces, power outages, and expensive groceries. If you're not there for vacation it's a real downer. But Michael did send me to the Pearl Harbor museum and the USS Arizona Memorial. Definitely a bucket list item for me! That puts my list of unvisited states at 5; North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

We wasted no time in tropical dreamland. We were back on the plane on Friday night and back in New Mexico by Saturday. We spent a week in Alamogordo, and now we're back in Taos. Next month, California!
